Waxing or Plucking What’s the Best Way to Get Rid of Facial Hair

Waxing or Plucking: What’s the Best Way to Get Rid of Facial Hair?

Many people all around the world suffer from unwanted facial hair growth, some more than others as body hair growth is genetic and can also be hormonal. It’s a common problem and for some women it can be a pain to deal with. So, what is the best way to get rid of facial hair? Olivia Stephens Salon & Spa, a hair salon spa in Palm Beach, has shared some details on the most common techniques.

Some people shave, pluck, or wax; it all depends on the person. There are many pros and cons to any way a person pulls out their facial hair. According to Woman & Home, “experts advise plucking over threading or waxing, as this will cause the least amount of damage to your skin”. Although many women would disagree, as waxing can pull out ingrown and hard to reach hairs.

The Myth About Shaving

Shaving facial hair is not very common among women, as some believe in the myth behind shaving that the hair will grow back faster and thicker. However, this myth about shaving is not true. But most women do not want to test their luck and wake up the next day with a full-grown beard.

Is Waxing a Better Option?

The benefit of waxing is that when it’s done correctly, you can be hair-free for up to one month, which is why most women stick with waxing. It may be painful, but it does beat plucking hair every few days because won’t stop coming back. But most people do not know that the chin is much different than other facial hair.  “If the hair on the chin is not grown out to ¼ inch, it can lead to breaking of the hairs”, according to Hair Free Life.

A possible downside of waxing is that if the person has sensitive skin, it can lead to redness and sometimes an allergic reaction. The other con is that if the person wants to get laser hair removal on the chin later on, it may be harder to do so, because waxing strengthens the hair root. Depending on your sensitivity, waxing may not be the right fit for you.

Is Plucking the Ideal Method?

The advantage to plucking is that it can be done anywhere and it’s a quick fix. However, the chin hairs can break very easily, and with a lot of chin hair it may be difficult to pluck what is known as the peach fuzz. These hairs are so tiny and difficult to pluck that it’s hard not to break the hair follicle in half.

The downside is that when plucking, most women forget that it does not pull from the hair root, which causes the hair to grow back in a couple of days. It may not be the best solution, but it’s definitely a cheaper and faster alternative. Making sure to get a great tweezer can help you in the long run.

When Plucking Is Not the Best Solution

For most, plucking may not be the ideal solution. According to HelloGiggles, “Plucking hairs actually pulls them out of the root structure, which causes two problems. The first is that plucking causes inflammation and damage to the follicle, which can look like a pimple. The second issue is that when you pull a hair, the new hair that is formed is so short, it takes some time to emerge from the hair follicle, but often the tip of the hair can irritate the hair follicle and cause inflammation because it pokes into the sides of the follicle as it grows”.

Plucking is definitely a great option for emergency use, but is not something that should be used daily. Going to an expert for waxing and getting it done quickly may be the better option. Fortunately, there are many options and choosing the right fit for you is most likely the one that will help you in the end. Everyone is different and what helps your friend may not be the right fit for you.

Whether you choose to pluck or wax, it all depends on your preference and what works the best on your skin. Any option you choose will have pros and cons, but finding the right solution to fit your budget and skin will help you choose the right fit for you. Explore different options until you find one that has the best outcome in the end.
