Short Summary
|
This volume offers a critical review of gender mainstreaming. It aims to be enabling and practical by suggesting methods which help move past dilemmas into action by identifying solutions. The articles in this collection discuss different understandings of gender mainstreaming by various organisations. It provides examples of work which supports the empowerment of women, and looks beyond gender mainstreaming as a primary tool, to new possibilities for transformation. Specific topics covered include gender mainstreaming experiences since the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA), 1995. It includes experiences of gender mainstreaming in Bolivia; in the South Africa liberation struggle; in government offices in Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos; as well as in African non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and communities; strategic gender mainstreaming in Oxfam GB; and urban poor communities in Mumbai. The resource lists relevant publications, websites, electronic resources, and organisations.
