Short Summary
|
Strength in Action: an Educators' Guide to Promoting Domestic Violence provides essential resources to teachers, facilitators and leaders to conduct a systematic, ongoing education process designed to prevent domestic violence. It was developed by Breakthrough, a non-profit human rights organisation that uses media, education and pop culture to promote values of dignity, equality and justice. Designed for young people, the main objectives of the resource guide are: to create a dialogue around culture, violence, vulnerability, and rights; to create an understanding of domestic violence and of what can be done to prevent it; and to encourage a better awareness of the role of gender and of ideas of masculinity and femininity in the perpetuation of domestic violence. The guide aims to encourage discussion about domestic violence with both boys and girls through a participatory process. It focuses on experiential learning and is structured so that the facilitator guides the participants through a process of experiences and activities, reflection and discussion, often facilitated by supporting audio visual material. It also encourages responsible taking action, problem solving, and negotiating skills and aims to promote a gender sensitive approach to relationships, family and society.
