Short Summary |
This document reports the gender specific initiatives
which have been carried out in Chile between 2005 and 2006. Highlights
include the government's commitment to improve women's participation
in employment and in public office, both in local government and at
parliamentary level. As far as violence against women is concerned,
6 new centres for women victims of domestic violence were opened and
the government made a commitment to deal with human trafficking at
a legislative level and by guaranteeing protection and assistance
to its victims. The Chilean national machinery for the advancement
of women also started the process of developing codes of conduct for
the public sector to ensure that women enjoy equal opportunities and
are not discriminated against. Other gender specific initiatives on
social protection, childcare, health (including reproductive rights),
education and HIV/AIDS are also described here. Original title in
