Short Summary |
The International Covenant on Economic, Social
and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) states that economic, social and cultural
rights are critical to the survival and development of human potential.
By asserting that all human rights are to be enjoyed without discrimination
on the basis of sex, it also makes such rights central to the implementation
of women's human rights. They include adequate food and shelter, health
care, education, fair employment, social security and the right to
participate in one's culture. This document provides a framework for
reporting and monitoring the implementation of women's human rights
under the ICESCR. For each article of the covenant, it presents an
explanation and a series of questions that can be used for advocacy,
lobbying, implementation of provisions and women's human rights purposes.
It also offers tips on how to work with the covenant, including reporting
procedures and committee sessions. Users of this guide will be primarily
NGOs or government officials. |
