Short Summary |
This 'Big Purple Book' is the draft compilation
of the Asia-Pacific regional assessment of the implementation of the
Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) in the run-up to the tenth anniversary
of the Beijing Conference. It highlights urgent factors that have
arisen in the last decade, such as globalisation, growing concerns
around labour migration, armed conflict and increased trafficking
of women. This draft version includes all the statements, speeches
and workshop summaries at the forum. Areas of concern that are highlighted
include increased women's poverty in the context of globalisation
and privatisation; women's inadequate access to education, particularly
higher education; a lack of access to sexual and reproductive health
services; women's invisibility in decision-making and mainstream political
processes; a lack of recognition of violence against women and gender-based
violence, including in armed conflict, as a violation of women's human
rights; and the failure of national machineries in the region to successfully
mainstream gender. |
