Summary: The female condom is a new method of preventing
both pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI)/HIV infection.
If supported by education and informational activities about its
use then the female condom can contribute to women’s control over
their reproductive and sexual rights and health. This resource offers
guidance on how to plan for integrating the female condom into already
existing activities as well as how to effectively promote it and
train providers to adequately educate potential users about it.
For example, recruiting prominent role models and/or community leaders
to present the product and the programme. It aims to help programme
managers in public and private sector health systems and non-governmental
organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) who
are interested in developing or expanding programmes to include
the female condom and to address operational and promotional aspects.
