Short Summary |
Sector Wide Approaches (SWAps) form the main
framework for Danida's development assistance and SWAps are increasingly
being adopted by donor agencies as an effective and efficient way
to ensure that development initiatives have national reach and ownership.
Danida has developed a series of guidelines to ensure that sector
programming integrates gender equality concerns. The Guiding Questions
on Gender and Water Supply and Sanitation serve as a tool for development
practitioners for assessment of various reports, studies and Sector
Programme Support Documents at the different stages of the programme
cycle. Drawing on lessons learnt in water and sanitation from Danida-funded
projects as well as from other agencies, the guideline covers water
supply, sanitation and sewerage services, health/hygiene promotion
and water resources assessment and promotion. Each section is separated
into subsections under which questions for consideration are listed,
suggested actions cited and examples given.
