In 2005 the International Women's Tribune Centre (IWTC) and Isis Women's International Cross-Cultural Exchange (WICCE) collaborated to bring together women peacebuilders from 40 women's organizations in Nepal, the Philippines, Timor Leste, Uganda and Zimbabwe to participate in the 'Peacebuilding Cyberdialogue' - a 'real time global town hall meeting' using Internet chat with voice and video / visual contact. The focus was on women's efforts to implement the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security. Discussions connected women at local, national and international levels, and were used to produce radio in English, Luganda and Swahili to highlight women's role in peace-building and reconstruction. Local voices and realities were heard in a global space and the discussion was brought back to make sense at the local level. However, there were a number of technical challenges, including the unreliability of Internet connections and power supplies; the incompatibility of the technical set-ups amongst participants; the general lack of familiarity with the technology; and the slow speed of Internet connectivity.
