Mainstream approaches conflict and reconstruction
fail to recognise how armed conflict exacerbates gender inequality.
This pack explores the impact of armed conflict on gender relations,
analysing the distinct ways that both women and men are affected.
The overview report demonstrates that interventions must respond to
the diverse needs of women and men who may simultaneously play the
roles of activists and parents, soldiers and victims. The supporting
resources collection features summaries of key materials, case studies,
tools, web resources and networking contacts. The In Brief bulletin
consists of a summary of the overview report and two case studies:
the Gender Programme of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of
Peru (CVR), whose activities promoted gender equality as central to
long-term peace; and the Women"s Centre for Legal Aid and Counselling
(WCLAC) in Palestine, who likewise promote gender equality as essential
to the establishment of peace. The printed pack is available free
to southern-based organisations. Contact BRIDGE at bridge@ids.ac.uk.
