| For
Simple Searching:
- You can find resources in other languages by typing
the language name in the "search words" box. For example,
type "Arabic" for Arabic resources.
- Check the spelling of each word you type in the "search
words" box.
- Remove characters such as ":" ";" and "-"
from your search.
- You MUST combine search words with OR, AND and
NOT. For example, if you want to search for materials on feminism
in Islam type "feminism AND Islam" in the keywords box.
- You can search for materials by their year of
publication. For example, if you want to search for HIV/AIDS materials
published in 2002, type "HIV/AIDS AND 2002".
- To search by country or region, type the name of the country
or region in the "search words" box.
- You usually do not need to type the word gender in your search.
E.g. to search for materials on gender issues in Uganda type "Uganda".
- The "Search" function performs a search
of the gender resources database and not of the website pages.

For Advanced
Searching:
- "Advanced Search" allows
you to search by category, region, or type of document (report,
guide, tool etc...).
- Enter words into the search box, use AND, OR
as for basic searching
- The search will retrieve the records
which contain all of the search terms provided. For example, searching
for sustainable development will return records which contain
the phrase sustainable development, in Africa
(if you highlighted Africa in the region box)
- Use the truncation symbol "*" to find plurals
and word stems. For example, farm* will find records containing
farm, farms, farmer, farming, etc.
