This document from the Asia Pacific NGO Forum on Beijing +15 reaffirms the commitment to the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA) for a group of over 700 women representing women's and girl's movements across Asia and the Pacific. The document acknowledges progresses made such as the efforts of some countries in the region to improve health outcomes for women and girls and also recognises that some countries have measures in place to reduce gender gaps in literacy and in primary and secondary education. Despite these advances, the document recognises the enormous and complex challenges women and girls are facing in the Asia and Pacific Region, particularly in relation to increasing food insecurity and its negative impacts on livelihoods, women and girls in situations of armed conflict, increasing violence against women and girls, restrictive economic frameworks and women and climate change. The declaration then moves on to reaffirm the organisations' resolve to continue striving for development, peace and freedom by actively working with young women and girls to strengthen the women's movements across the region. This will be done through a number of measures including urging States to promote and protect women's human rights, protect women human rights defenders, and ensure the rights of women and girls who have experienced violence to gain truth, justice and recovery.
