Short Summary
|
The Gender and Entrepreneurship Together (GET) training package assists organisations to promote enterprise development among low-income women who want to start, or are already engaged in, small-scale businesses. The package addresses the needs of these women by strengthening their basic business and people management skills. The training methods are participatory and action-orientated and each of the four modules has practical learning-by-doing exercises with details of how the activities should be run. Module One introduces the training programme content and its methodology. It also explains the basic meaning and relevance of gender. For example, in the “Sexy Relay Race”, participants collectively draw a picture of a woman and a man and then discuss their different perceptions of the two sexes. Module Two identifies the traits that are important for entrepreneurship such as persistence, risk taking and self-confidence. Module Three examines what is needed for a successful business project - ideas, marketing skills, the ability to manage money etc, and participants make up role plays, for example, on how to deal with customers. Finally, Module Four looks at different forms of businesses - individual, family and group - and highlights the importance of social and business networks and drawing up business plans.
