RSS Feed Help

What is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". It is a way for you to periodically receive the latest content from a specific website (such as Siyanda) - or number of websites - as soon as it is available. Through using RSS you automatically get information (e.g. summaries of resources in the case of Siyanda, or news headlines, events, vacancies and project updates from other websites) delivered to your computer desktop without having to go to the website itself to read them. Once you receive the RSS feed, you can click on the link to access the full version of the content.

How can I read the Siyanda RSS Feed from my desktop?
You first need to download RSS reader or news aggregator software that runs on the computer desktop, such as Sharp Reader http://www.sharpreader.net/. If you do not want to install any software, you can use a free on-line RSS reader or news aggregator that works from any web browser such as NewsGator on-line http://newsgator.com/home.aspx, or one specifically for the Internet Explorer web browser like the RSS Feeds Toolbar for Microsoft Internet Explorer 1.0.01 http://www.diodia.com/feedstoolbar.htm. Some web browsers, like FireFox, have a built in RSS reader http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/.

If a website has an RSS feed available, an RSS link will be provided. An RSS link ends in or contains ".xml"; just look for an orange rectangle on the site which says or , or go to an RSS search engine such as Daypop http://www.daypop.com/. Enter the RSS link in the relevant field of your RSS reader, to start receiving the RSS feeds. The Siyanda RSS link is http://www.siyanda.org/rssnewadditions.xml.

How can I display the Siyanda RSS Feed on my website?
If you manage a website and would like to feature the Siyanda RSS Feed on it, you need to use a service that syndicates RSS news feeds on your website, such as Feedroll: http://www.feedroll.com/rssviewer/. You then select the Siyanda feed http://www.siyanda.org/rssnewadditions.xml, choose a design that suits the one on your website, afterwhich you should copy and paste the code provided by Feedroll (or a similar program) onto the relevant webpage.
