Established by the Netherlands Council of Women (NVR) in 1999, the Women for Water initiative brings together inter/national women's organisations to work towards supporting women's full and equal participation in the development and implementation of sustainable water and sanitation projects, policies and programmes.

The Women for Water database is an interactive on-line information service technically managed by The International Information Centre and Archives for the Women's Movement (IIAV). The database allows local stakeholders and potential partners to find each other; share information and expertise; and expand and upgrade their projects. Users can search the database by "Name of water project", "Name of organisation", "Focus of project", "Country" and "Language".
