Women's organisations have pushed the Commission on Africa to recognise that the fight against poverty in Africa relies on women’s leadership, their access to services and to equal rights in society.

This follow-up to the United Kingdom (UK) Gender and Development Network's (GADN) submission to the Commission for Africa consultation process reviews and critiques the extent to which gender concerns are reflected in the final report of the Commission.

- Seventh African Regional Conference on Women (Beijing + 10) Decade Review of the Implementation of the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action: Outcome and the Way Forward, Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), 2004
The purpose of this ministerial statement is to renew commitment to gender equality, equity and empowerment of women and to suggest concrete steps to address the gaps between commitment and implementation.

This report summarises the outcomes of a consultation organised by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) through the African Centre for Gender and Development, contributing to the decade evaluation of the Beijing Platform for Action (BPfA).

This statement was issued at the Oslo Donor's Conference on Sudan in April 2005. Its authors comprise Sudanese women delegates from all regions, including representatives from the Government of Sudan, the Sudanese People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A), civil society and academic institutions.
