The Prague Gender Studies Centre (founded 1990) is an information and advocacy centre for women's rights. The aim is to support the empowerment of women across all stratas of society both in the Czech Republic and in the whole region of Central and Eastern Europe. Projects are developed to ensure the enforcement of the principal of equal opportunities for women and men in all aspects of social and political life and to ensure better education of the society specifically in respect to womens human rights. The Centre runs a gender studies library, the largest in the country, and provides a variety of information services on gender and women's issues.

IV. Up-coming Events:

Women's World Congress, Kampala-Uganda (21-26 July 2002)
The 8th International Interdisciplinary congress on women will be held at the Makerere University in Kampala next week. The congress is organized around the main theme "Gendered Worlds: Gains and Challenges". This theme provides an opportunity for a broad reflection on the state of women and gender issues, taking stock of achievements, challenges and opportunities. There will be discussions focused on both differences and similarities and offers positive pointers for future action for gender equity and equality. V. Job Announcement

Programme and Communications Coordinator, IDS, UK
Two year fixed term contract
35 hours per week
Imp-Act is a global action-research programme working with
29 partner microfinance organisations in Latin America, Asia, Africa and Eastern
Europe. The programme is concerned with improving the impact of microfinance
on poverty and supports the development of practitioner impact assessment, works
to understand the wider impacts of microfinance, and seeks to disseminate learning
for improved practice and policy.
The Coordinator will communicate and work with diverse constituencies, including
donors, international organisations, research institutes, non-governmental and
grass-roots organisations and will be responsible for the day-to-day management
of the programme and for the adaptation of written materials into appropriate
dissemination output.
Excellent project management skills are essential together with experience in
materials development, documentation and editing. Knowledge of impact assessment,
microfinance and/or development would be an advantage.
Starting salary: £20,470-£23,373.
Closing date: 2 August.
Interview date: 19 August.

VI. Call for Papers:

Women and development: rethinking policy and reconceptualising practice, for
Womens Studies Quarterly, an educational project of the Feminist Press
at the City University of New York in cooperation with Rochester Institute of
Technology. They would like to receive case studies from those engaged in post-development
scholarship and activism, and those who create and implement policies and programmes
